“STEEL ZOOMIN” – a Virtual Get Together for Steel Mill Modeling Folks
The Steel Mill Modelers SIG is having it next “STEEL Zoomin” on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at 11am Eastern/10am Central Time. This is virtual meeting via Zoom and is open to everyone. There is no need to RSVP for this event, but it is limited to the first 100 persons who log into this Zoom meeting.
Following the presentations, we will have a “show-and-tell” for anyone who wishes to share with the group, using a Zoom feature that allows each person in the meeting to show, via live video and audio, their workbench projects. This is an opportunity for you to show off and ask questions. We would ask that you limit your sharing to no more than three pictures of your project(s) and please limit your discussion to a one to two minutes. To share photos, store the photo(s) on your computer and open on your “Desktop.” This will make it easy to share using the green “Share” button on the Zoom screen. We are also always looking for future meeting items. See the full agenda below.
These meetings are recorded and links to the “Steel Zoomin’ Meetup Videos” will be available in the “Members Area” of the Steel Mill Modelers website (SMMSIG.org). Please note that this is available for members only. You can join on the Steel Mill Modelers website (SMMSIG.org).

Additional Information:
1. SMMSIG members are welcome to invite a non-member to attend STEEL TALK to learn more about SMMSIG activities and meet additional members. If you invite a non-member to STEEL TALK, please arrange to be on STEEL TALK and introduce your guest.
2. Our Zoom STEEL TALK gatherings are not recorded or shared. Respecting the privacy of members, please do not make other arrangements to record STEEL TALK. If we do have a special segment of value for repeating, we will let everyone know when recording.
3. If another family member is using your computer, you can always join by phone, but you will not see the screens. Most of us use the computer microphone and speaker. A headset and separate microphone are better for presentations. Computers work better than cell phones.
4. Prior to the event, start your Zoom software and make sure that it has been updated to the latest version. Zoom has been regularly putting out security and application fixes and you need to update your copy regularly. To update your software, start the Zoom application, click on your initials in the upper right-hand corner, and choose Check for Updates from the menu.
Please do the following before/during the meeting:
- Please keep your introduction short: Name, Location, Scale. We have more people, and we want to get to the program. Your comments are always welcome during show and tell.
- Please update your on-screen name to include your first and last name and location, e.g., Phillip Burnside, Avon, IN, HO scale, US Steel present day
- Please mute your computer when not talking. Your space bar will also open your microphone when held down. Zoom will mute you when you join the meeting. As the host, I will mute your connection if there is background sound interrupting the Zoom Conference.
- Be sure to open your chat window, as links and other important information will be shared through that window. You can also type in questions in the chat window to be answered by the presenters.
